Hello and good morning from Literacy Connexus everyone! I hope that this blog post finds you all happy, healthy, and, hopefully, excited for a new blog post from Literacy Connexus.

In today’s society, immigration is a hot topic, with many of our organizations clambering to find ways to help incoming refugees, as well as the numerous refugees and immigrants that are already a part of our communities.

With that being said, many of us are also navigating how to create culturally responsive learning environments for our students and incorporate socio-emotional learning, global competence, and civic education into our ESL programs and classrooms. Re-Imagining Migration has created a wonderful teacher’s toolkit to help with just that. Given our current social climate, I couldn’t help but to share it with you all.

Re-Imagining Migration’s toolkit is designed to “promote skills, dispositions, and understandings to help the rising generation navigate a world of migration and change. As you will see, the materials included draw from social and emotional learning, best practices for English Learners, civic education, and global competence among others.”, and the kit includes “a set of essential resources for creating culturally responsive learning environments for all students – immigrant-origin youth and their peers”.

While designed for youth, I think that this toolkit could easily be extended to meet the needs of programs adult ELLs as well.

To check out this toolkit check out Re-Imagining Migration’s website by clicking the link here.

I hope that this resource helps you bring a little global competence into your classroom, and allows you to re-imagine migration in your community as well.

Until next time, blessings and happy teaching!
